Arcade by Color Condition

Situated between Discovery Green and the George R. Brown Convention Center, Avenida Houston’s walk able plaza has already been charming locals and visitors since it opened before the Super Bowl.

Arcade by Color Condition is an art installation that is made of cloth streamers by Texas based artist duo Sliger and Marianne Newsom of The Color Condition. It consists of three separate installations that create a dialogue between parts of the Avenida Houston Campus. The works is made from strips of table cloths, shower curtains and painters drop cloth. It responds to the environment, creating new colors as the light changes and new patterns with each gust of wind. This is the artists’ Houston debut and their largest commission since The Color Condition was established in 2010.

I visited this installation shortly after hurricane Harvey and I was happy to still see it standing. If you have the opportunity to visit, please share your experience using the hashtags #ColortheAve, #DiscoveryGreen and #AvenidaHouston
